2023 Chardonnay

2023 Chardonnay

from A$34.00

Ripe stone fruit, cashews, white pear and jasmine introduce a generous and focused palate. Fine tendrils of white fruit, slate and brioche are balanced by a coating of natural acidity, poised and tensile. The finish is powerful and persistent, given direction by a puckering minerality and pumice-like drive.

Winemaking: Fruit is picked in the cool hours of the morning and gently pressed to yield only the purest juice. A brief settling overnight is followed by racking to fermentation, incorporating the lightest solids, to 228L French oak barriques. After fermentation the wine is aged on lees (sur lie), with regular fortnightly bâttonage for the first six months, followed by a further three month ‘sur lie’ with no bâttonage before blending and bottling.

Awards & Reviews:

THE WINE PILOT

“Western Australian Chardonnay might not necessarily call to mind the Geographe region as a major player, though this outing will raise of few eyebrows otherwise. It’s ripe and generous, peach and more tropical suggestions in terms of fruit notes, melon and pineapple for sure, suggesting Gin Gin clone vines in the mix. Other elements also account well here: cut hay and soursob, the latter’s natural bite of acidity entwined with yellow grapefruit tang to drive the palate with a fair bit of underlying tenacity, as well as coating the mouth with a moreish pithiness, finishing with a memorable lip-smack. Lots of goodness to consider.” (June 2024)

TONY LOVE - 94 points

“Bright and expressive. There is sunshine on the fruit, yet it is poised with plenty of taut acidity that keeps the palate racy and refreshing. Creamy nougat, peach fuzz and ginger spice add complexity. Oak is present yet supportive and well handled. Nice layer of texture from clever battonage. Really very drinkable.” (May 2024)

EMMA FARRELLY - 92 points

“Some smart, well-controlled winemaking is employed here, where fruit, oak and acidity work nicely hand in hand. Layers of leesy cashew, nougat flavours sit comfortably with citrus, ripe nectarine, peach and spice. Keeps a sunny disposition, a pretty fast paced one, too, thanks to some juicy, racy acidity. Subtle, nutty oak influences bring an overall warmth and appealing texture to the wine. Moreish to the last drop.” (May 2024)
